Ours is a rather large property. We bought it when prices were so low that they seem ludicrous now. This is not a boast or a, “look at me,” no, this is a sad thought for the generations that followed me. We bought our home for under 100k. I said it seems ludicrous didn’t I?

It is true that prices never go down which is why depressions were invented. My parents went through the depression that ruined many but brought prices down. We were sailing steady and level when my wife and I were married. That is the only reason we felt we could take a chance and bought our first home back in the early 1980s. (4.0k) We jumped upward from there over the decades to where we are now. Of course, we are both now in our seventies so it depends on how one defines good fortune as to how fortunate we were.

As I look out at my kids now only one has been able to buy a home, the other two are renters. Which is why my wife and I filled out our will so that our property will stay in our family. That is the good thing about being born before the last half of last century, it has allowed time to develop substance that can be passed down. That and careful planning with purpose. We aren’t wealthy by any stretch but we are cautious and attuned to what happens around us.

I post this in way of saying, be patient and be bold when opportunity rises for you. It will, if you’re patient and attentive and willing to take a risk. A thought-through risk.
